If you are thinking about learning Portuguese then you probably have a reason behind it. Maybe you plan to travel to either Portugal or Brazil, perhaps you have friends or family members you are keen to converse with in their mother tongue, or maybe you just want to take on another challenge as a hobby. Whatever your reason is for wanting to learn the beautiful language of Portuguese there are many ways that can help you learn quickly.

The first thing you need to do is decide if you are going to learn European Portuguese or Brazilian Portuguese as these are the two main variations of the language. Brazilian Portuguese is much widely spoken given the size of Brazil and the fact that there are more Portuguese speaking countries in both North and South America.

Then, once you have decided which form of Portuguese you plan to study, you need to determine if you want to be able to read the language, speak the language in order to converse or do both. For those who prefer to read Portuguese then the grammatical side needs careful attention and perhaps requires a little more study. Spoken Portuguese can be learnt by following oral classes and even spending time amongst native speakers.

Once you develop the foundations of the language you can build on them and this of course requires a lot of practice. The more you practice the better you become and the easier you start to grasp the basics of the language. Indulge in as many classes as you can, look at books and try to mix with Portuguese speaking natives, this you can do by travelling or mixing with the local Portuguese community.
