The left side is the front brake and the right side is the rear brake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4. <strong>Chain<\/strong> &#8211; The circular set of links that transfer power from the chain ring to the cogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>5. <strong>Chain ring<\/strong> &#8211; The toothed rings that attach to the crank to hold the chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>6. <strong>Crank<\/strong> &#8211; The lever that extends from the bottom bracket to the pedal, transferring the power to the chain rings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>7. <strong>Derailleur<\/strong> &#8211; The mechanism for moving the chain from one cog to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>8. <strong>Down tube<\/strong> &#8211; The section of frame that extends downward from the stem to the bottom bracket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>9. <strong>Front shock<\/strong> &#8211; The shock absorber on the front fork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>10. <strong>Handlebar<\/strong> &#8211; The horizontal bar attached to the stem with handgrips on the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>11. <strong>Headset<\/strong> &#8211; The mechanism in front of the frame that connects the front fork to the stem and handlebars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>12. <strong>Hub<\/strong> &#8211; The center part of the wheel that the spokes are attached to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>13. <strong>Idler pulley<\/strong> &#8211; The bottom pulley of the rear derailleur that provides spring tension to keep the chain tight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>14. <strong>Nipple<\/strong> &#8211; A threaded receptacle that holds the end of the spoke to the rim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>15. <strong>Pedal<\/strong> &#8211; The platform to pedal on; attaches to the crank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>16. <strong>Rear shock<\/strong> &#8211; The shock absorber for the rear tire on dual suspension type bikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>17. <strong>Rim<\/strong> &#8211; The metal ring that holds the spokes on the inside and the tire to the outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>18. <strong>Saddle<\/strong> &#8211; The seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>19. <strong>Seat post<\/strong> &#8211; Offers support for the seat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>20. <strong>Skewer<\/strong> &#8211; The metal rod that goes through the hub, attaching the wheel to the dropouts of the frame.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>21. <strong>Spindle<\/strong> &#8211; The free rotating axle that the crank arms attach to; also a part of the bottom bracket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>22. <strong>Spokes<\/strong> &#8211; The thick wires that join the hub to the rim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>23. <strong>Stem<\/strong> &#8211; A piece that attaches the handlebar to the steering tube.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>24. <strong>Wheel hub<\/strong> &#8211; The center of the wheel that the spokes are attached to.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A mountain bike is the one thing you need before you go mountain biking.
