In turn, the three Doshas and seven tissue systems also have different proportions of the five basic elements with a dominance of certain elements in each.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, according to the Ayurvedic Principle of \u2018like increases &amp; dislike decreases\u2019, foods having the properties as a particular DOSHA and\/ or tissue systems increase those properties. And when foods have opposite properties then it results in a decrease of those properties. When you wish to bring balance into your digestion, look at what qualities and tastes dominate in your diet, and balance them with the opposite qualities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AYURVEDA has a unique distinction of classifying food articles based on these 20 properties and uses food to nourish and\/ or to bring about changes in the Doshas and the tissue systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These 20 Properties are classified in opposing pairs of 10 and are listed as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Heavy \u2013 Light<\/li><li>Cold \u2013 Hot<\/li><li>Unctuous \u2013 Dry<\/li><li>Slow \u2013 Sharp<\/li><li>Stable \u2013 Mobile<\/li><li>Soft \u2013 Hard<\/li><li>Slimy \u2013 Rough<\/li><li>Viscous \u2013 Liquid<\/li><li>Gross \u2013 Subtle<\/li><li>Cloudy \u2013 Clear<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some examples of how the 20 Properties exhibit themselves in various Foods:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Heavy \u2013 Cream, cheese, kidney beans.<\/li><li>Light \u2013 Puffed rice, Popcorn.<\/li><li>Cold \u2013 Mint, coconut water, water melon, rice.<\/li><li>Hot \u2013 Peppers, nutmeg, turkey meat.<\/li><li>Oily \u2013 Nuts, fats and oils, black lentil.<\/li><li>Dry \u2013 Millet, rye, corn.<\/li><li>Slow \u2013 Yogurt, red meat, condensed milk.<\/li><li>Sharp \u2013 Onion, ginger, Garlic, Bell peppers, mustard greens.<\/li><li>Stable \u2013 Ghee, wheat.<\/li><li>Mobile \u2013 alcohol, sprouts.<\/li><li>Soft \u2013 Puffed rice, Tapioca, pasta.<\/li><li>Hard \u2013 Nuts, jack fruit.<\/li><li>Slimy \u2013 okra, full cream yogurt.<\/li><li>Rough \u2013 Most millets, broccoli, cauliflower, oats.<\/li><li>Dense \u2013 Cream, potatoes.<\/li><li>Liquid \u2013 all water based beverages, soups, milk.<\/li><li>Gross \u2013 Roots and tubers, Dates, minerals.<\/li><li>Subtle \u2013 Spices, saffron, oils<\/li><li>Cloudy \u2013 Mayonnaise, butter, Sea food.<\/li><li>Clear \u2013 Clarified butter milk, black eyed pea, bitters.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Every food item contains some 20 Properties proportion of the Five basic elements (Space, Air, Fire, Water &amp; Earth), with one or more of the elements being dominant.
